Practical Information

L’Atelier-Musée du Chapeau is open all year long, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 2 pm to 6 pm.     

During July and August, opening time is from 2 pm to 6:30 pm.

The museum is closed on Mondays, January 1st, May 1st and December 25th.

Each tour is guided through the technical part of the museum. A hat-making demonstration is also provided.

Hard copies with translation are available in English, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese and Danish.

English or Spanish guided tour are available for groups (at least 10 people), only on reservation with an additional cost of 40 € for the group.

How to come to Chazelles-sur-Lyon?

L’Atelier-Musée du Chapeau is located in Chazelles sur Lyon, in the Monts du Lyonnais, within the touristic area of Forez, at 30 km to the north of Saint-Etienne and 45 km to the west of Lyon.

From 300 to 1000 m high, a green and fertile land of 1000 faces stretches from the Forez planes crossed by the Loire river on the west to the Monts du Lyonnais a the east; from Montrond-les-Bains’s thermal place on the south to Mount Boussuivre and its famous Matagrin Tower (near Violay) on the north.

On foot, on bike, on car… travelling is the best way to discover this place with a great diversity of landscapes, reliefs and touristic wealth.

Come to Chazelles-sur-Lyon

By car:

Motorway A6 : exit “Valvert”
Motorway A71 and A89 : exit “Montbrison – Montrond-les-bains”
Motorway A7 : exit “Vienne” then follow the way to Saint-Etienne, then A72 to Clermont-Ferrand and exit 9 “Saint Galmier, Veauche”. When you are in Saint Galmier, follow the way to Chazelles-sur-Lyon.

When you are in Chazelles-sur-Lyon, please follow “Chapellerie” signs.

By train :

In Lyon: From Lyon Perrache railway station or Lyon Part Dieu railway station, use the metropolitan to go to Gorge de loup Bus station. Then you need to take the bus named “2Ex” to Chazelles-sur-Lyon.

By bus :

From Saint Etienne :
Use the line C1, download timetable by clicking here. Get off the bus at the stop “Rue des Tilleuls” (Lime trees Street) and follow the pedestrian red signs for “Chapellerie”.

From Lyon :
Use the line 2Ex, download timetable by clicking here. Get off the bus at the stop “Avenue du 11 novembre” (November 11th Avenue), and follow the pedestrian red signs for “Chapellerie”.
